Plainly is a mobile application that photographs the ingredients panel on a product — a moisturiser, a shampoo, a snack, a toothpaste — and explains what is actually in it.
Ingredient lists are written for regulators, not for the person holding the bottle. Plainly reads the panel and gives you, for each ingredient, what it is and what it does in ordinary words; a general-population score for the product as a whole; and a clear indication of which ingredients are worth knowing about and why. If you tell the app about your own sensitivities — fragrance, nuts, added sugar, alcohol and similar — it re-reads the same result against them and shows you what matters to you specifically.
Signing in with Google creates your Plainly account. We use it for exactly two things: to know which scan history belongs to you, and to keep that history in sync if you use more than one device. Google shares your email address and name with us for this purpose. We request no other access to your Google account — no contacts, no calendar, no files, no Drive.
Your health and dietary sensitivities are stored only on your phone. They are never sent to our servers and never reach any analysis provider — personalised scoring is computed on the device itself. Photographs you scan are used to read the label and the original is deleted within 24 hours. Plainly shows no advertising and sells no data.
